The most important thing we can collectively do to move the needle on addressing climate change is to inspire the people who visit our museums. Through your operations that touch your visitors, you can demonstrate leadership and provide opportunities for your visitors to engage in sustainable practices.  The importance of living out your commitment to sustainable operations is crucial.  And by practicing what you preach you demonstrate solutions which create hope. And as noted conservation psychologist John Fraser said, “hope is a targeted way of seeing the future and taking steps to get to that future.” 

So, let’s examine all our visitor facing interactions, from trash disposal to materials choices to gift shop merchandise and look for ways to demonstrate action and create hope.
