Learn & Act

The Learn + Act Section is comprised of 6 Museum Professional Areas & Departments, each housing a set of Promising Practices relevant to achieving excellence in sustainability practices. Like a Case Study, each Promising Practice describes a sustainable project or practice that is ongoing implementation at a children’s museum or science center across the United States.

Whereas the Start section outlines several significant intersections between climate change, museums and culutural organizations, and human health, the Learn + Act section represents a much wider and deeper array of resources supporting tangible and concrete actions that bridge the gap between theory and practice. It is this spirit of agency and action—and the capacity to effect real change—that Caretakers of Wonder champions.

Promising Practice Definition

Our Promising Practices are offered in the spirit of hope fueled by action. These Promising Practices represent a breadth of ideas, projects, and practices implemented or planned by a museum or science center in the Caretakers of Wonder network. In that sense, they are similar to case studies, but authored here by the individuals and teams who ideated and developed these sustainable practices across museum departments and areas of work.

These Promising Practices range from Sustainability Plans (under Leadership + Development), and Purchasing (Operations + Guest Services), to Outdoor Exhibits (Exhibits), and Mindfulness in Early Education Programs.

A Promising Practice is just that. A report from the team on the frontiers of sustainability in the museum field. An example of a good-faith effort making their organization more sustainable or aligned with the environment and their community’s health.
